Vikram and Betaal (Colonial Era)

Vikram & Betaal: A Colonial Bengal Reimagining
A visual development and pre-production project recontextualising the ancient Indian folklore of Vikram and Betaal within 19th-century colonial Bengal.
This showcase includes:
Character Designs: King Vikram reimagined as a conflicted regional ruler/zamindar navigating colonial-era aesthetics, paired with a sinister, culturally rooted Betaal.
Treatment Frames: Mood and lighting studies establishing the atmospheric, moonlit tension of the crematorium and wilderness.
Animatic: Storyboard animatic capturing the fateful first encounter between Vikram and the corpse-inhabiting spirit.
